I have long wanted to read Phil Rickman's Merrily Watkins series. That desire was increased when I saw the ITV production of Midwinter of the Spirit. It has just the right mix of paranormal and real life police work. The first book in the series, The Wine of Angels sounds really enticing. Here's the description:

I'm already reading it. Even if it doesn't win, it will be fun to revisit. And the PBS series was awesome the way they combined the two.
So far the top two are not in my library system :(

It's a UK tv network -- we get a lot of those shows on Masterpiece or PBS in general here.
thanks, Nancy, I usually am on PBS quite a lot, but, I don't think I've stumbled on Midwinter of the Spirit, but maybe I've missed, after all, it's not like I'm on 24/7... hehe...
