Michael Schmicker Aloha all:
How about Stephen King's "Pet Semetery" ? It's one of the scariest supernatural stories I ever read. Losing a child is a parent's greatest nightmare.
Could I also suggest "The Witch of Napoli"? (Full disclosure, I'm the author, but it has received a combined 400 5-star reviews on Amazon and Goodreads. Moderator: if I've violated a rule by this suggestion, my apologies and please delete this post. )
Cheers,
Michael

Werner Michael, you haven't violated any rule, per se; but since the poll's already up, you're too late with your suggestions for this year. You're welcome to suggest Pet Sematary for next year's read --the "What are we going to read in this group?" thread ( https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... ) is open all year, though discussion usually picks up more during the month of August.

It's not a formal rule that authors not nominate their own books (of course, not every book that's nominated gets put into the poll --I use some discretion as moderator, for instance to keep the poll to a manageable size, though I try to operate by consensus as much as possible); it's just a suggestion I make. But I think it's a good suggestion. Probably every supernatural fiction author in this group (and we have a LOT of authors, including myself!) would love to nominate his/her book for a read; but our perspective isn't exactly impartial. If we're indie or small-press authors, as many are, it's also usually more difficult for readers in the group to access our books from their local libraries, or by interlibrary loan. In your case, I see that about 26 libraries (in the World Catalog database) have print copies of your book. Given the relatively low level of participation in these reads, that actually might be enough for those who wanted to take part, especially if some participants chose to buy the book or already had copies. But I still think it would be better if the nomination came from another group member who'd read and liked the book, or wanted to read it. Does that position make sense?

Pamela I know it is hard to believe but I am not a S king fan. I will pass on October. I've tried several times and have seen some of his works on screen, which were compelling. Just not a good match for me. Enjoy though. Pamela

Werner No problem, Pamela; participation in these reads is always voluntary, and most of the members do sit them out. Joyland hasn't won yet, though, although it's leading, so you still have time to vote for House of Leaves if you think you might like it better. Personally, the description of that one didn't really grab me; and I've liked the two King books I've read (though I've never seen any of the movies), so Joyland got my vote. (But I'll take part in the read either way!)
