So science tells us that complex brains give rise to functional consciousness. But what causes us to have subjective consciousness? Some say God. Others believe consciousness is a product of purely physical processes. But regardless of consciousness’s origin, both poles of the spiritual–secular divide agree that it is somehow sacred.
What makes a piece of music so alive, is the fact that it adapts a general plan to its own requirements. The art of music has come a long way, and has always retained connection with human feelings.
Art and literature inspire empathy for kinds of people we’ve never met and can help us grow in virtue.
People who are transgender have greater ability than ever before to make their physical bodies match the gender identity that they experience inside.
