God. I’m trying.
“Your family is everyone in this fucking room,” he retorts. “We’re all bound together one way or another, and there will be a time when you need him.” He points at Ryke. “Or him.” He motions to me. “Just as they needed you tonight. So you want to be a selfish little fuck and paddle out on your own little lifeboat and leave everyone else to drown, so be it. You go do that, Samuel. Because when the rest of us are carrying lifejackets, we won’t throw you one.”
“If I’m spineless, then every man in comparison is an annelid.” My father’s brows shoot up. “An anus?” Rose cuts in, “A worm.” Connor is grinning, loving that his wife understood him.
BRO SAID FROM BOOK 1 THAT HE WANTS A WOMAN WHO CAN UNDERSTAND AND MATCH HIS ENERGY. connor can say all he wants that he doesn't believe in fate, but this man MANIFESTED.
My dad has one-fourth of his drink left. He’s fixated on it—or maybe I am. He’s almost going to finish it off, and I can’t keep speculating. On impulse, I step forward and steal the glass from him. He cocks his head at me like really, son? I sniff the liquid, just smelling lime, but I see carbonation bubbles. Gin and tonic? And then Jonathan Hale, with his graying sideburns, narrows his deadly eyes and gives me a single dark look: drink it, son. If you don’t fucking trust me. I go cold, put the rim of the glass to my lips— “Lo!” Ryke yells, his hand clamping on my shoulder, about to tear the

I fell in love with her.
My sister is still pretending that fate is working in her favor and that she’ll have a girl. No one knows though. She won’t check.
i think it's a boy.... the only second gen edits i've seen are of ben & charlie cobalt (roseconnor's kids)..... i haven't seen a girl..... AND I FEEL LIKE IT'S OUT OF CHARACTER IF IT'S ONLY THOSE TWO BECAUSE IT'S THE COBALT LEGACY since rose would 100% vouch that a woman can take over too..... i mean, connor's MOM was the owner originally, so even he wouldn't discriminate. I DON'T KNOW.
“I’m insatiable,” I say the words that I’ve always known. “You’re perfect,” he breathes, tucking a piece of hair behind my ear. “And after we finish this wall, I’ll finish inside you.”
Ryke would not appreciate Daniel’s lingering gaze, and now my friend instincts take over. I cough into my hand, disrupting his staring. “Yes?” he asks me. “I’d like it if you stopped ogling my sister.”
I think, maybe, that’s what being sisters is all about. Picking each other up when the other trips. Putting on our sisterly superhero capes when the other needs us. We’re both human in the end.
The elevator dings, and all of the board members quiet, rotating to face the sliding metal doors. Ryke emerges, wearing a leather bike jacket, zipped to the collar, and a black backpack with buckles across the chest. A green water bottle dangles off the lower strap with a carabineer.
wait. he might get on their good sides for coming to a PREGNANT woman's rescue, so they see him worthy of a company regarding babies....
“I have a confession to make,” Daisy pipes in, raising her hand as she sits on the sink. “When I was younger, I totally had a crush on Lo.” I end up smiling, and Ryke is staring at her like what the fuck? “Really?” I say. She nods. “I thought he was really hot.”
“Good. I fucking missed you.” He did? “Maybe you should pee your pants more often.” He almost smiles. There is the Ryke Meadows I know…and yes, I love him too. I squint, trying to narrow my eyes. “Not funny.”
their relationship development is the best in the entire series, i swear. from ricochet to here. :')
Ryke sees through it. “Which one of those fucking guys is all over you?” All of them. “None,” she says. “A couple are just touchy-feely.” “Oh yeah?” Ryke is boiling. “Where’d they fucking touch you?” “You said you wouldn’t freak out,” she says. “I never made that fucking promise,” he retorts.
“It’s better this way,” she breathes. “In what world, Calloway?” he asks. “Because in mine, you’re free.”
The moment that Ryke breaks from Daisy and begins walking to the elevator, he shoots the men one of the most territorial glowers. Now more than a couple guys step backwards.
I just worry that in twenty-four years, my son will be sitting where I am, thinking about all the mistakes that I made. How I fucked up his life, the same way that I look at my father.
“Why is it so dark in here?” She takes a seat and cringes at the dim chandelier above our bed, as though it’s not doing its job.
Rose says, crossing her arms in a huff. But she can’t really do the action with her baby bump, and she growls in frustration. Connor rubs her ankles, and she calms down some.
“Sadie hates hugs,” Rose says. “A woman after my own heart.” She pats her lap, and Sadie curls on top of Rose’s baby bump and purrs.
I LITERALLY SAID THAT SADIE'S ONLY EXCEPTION ON WOMEN WOULD BE ROSE TO JUST SHOW HOW MUCH HER AND CONNOR ARE MEANT TO BE. like the SCREAM i let out when that happened in kiss the sky. OMG.
We all quiet to the sound of a violent banging, from a body into a piece of furniture. I freeze and hear the proceeding sounds: a high-pitched cry from Daisy. “Ahhhhh! Ryke, Ryke!” Shit. I internally cringe at her sex noises. And then a deep grunt filters through the door. Both Lily and Rose back up from the wood like it electrocuted them.
There’s something about Lily that makes all the terrible parts of me seem irrelevant. That makes a bad day momentary and a good one infinite. It’s love like this that’s worth living for.
Instead, I hold a pair of boxer-briefs. Male underwear. Dark green. I know Lo’s underwear, and that is not a Loren Hale color. I drop them on instinct. They’re either Connor or Ryke’s, but only one of them is rude enough to sneak his clothes into the girl piles. Ryke. I just touched Ryke’s underwear! The same fabric that has also touched his penis. Does that mean by process of deduction that I just… Grossgrossgross.
She fixes her hair to one side of her shoulder while Connor studies Rose with more concern, sidling closer to her. He whispers in her ear and she nods to him. The bad thing about nerd stars: they’re so high up that it’s hard to hear or see unless you exist in space with them.
Rose holds up a bundle of pastel green onesies and shows off the top one: orange tabby cats printed all over the green cotton. It’s so cute and— “Unisex,” Lo mentions. “Just in case you have a boy.” He doesn’t add that the cats are just like Sadie, who Connor has already given to Frederick, his therapist, to take care of for a while. Rose was visibly upset the entire day that Sadie left, her eyes reddened like she’d been crying. “I don’t know what to say,” Rose murmurs, her eyes traversing along the fabric.
“You can do this sitting down, darling.” She nods and settles in the Queen Anne, pushed by the wall. The doll rests snuggly on her lap. Connor has his eyes on her for an extended moment before he turns to us.
“They’re false,” she emphasizes, growling out the word, and her eyes snap open, just to shoot me the evilest glare. She blows out a long breath. “I have three more weeks until my due date. It’s too soon.” Now I notice how Connor’s examining her movements, his gaze traveling across her body. “Motherfuck…” She grips the edge of the leather seat and glances at the window.
“Rose,” Connor says, impassive like usual, “put your legs on the seat for me.” She’s pretty much doubled over now, clutching her knees that have broken apart. Shit. “It’s too early…” Her voice breaks in pain.
Rose screams—a horrific, blood-curdling scream. Connor’s grip tightens on her, as though he’s holding her life in his hands. The terrifying thought: he just might be.
