“I find that women often know more than men think.” The duchess tilted her head. “More than men know, as well, no?” Dahlia smiled. “That, too.”
“A duke in the muck? It’s like watching a hound recite Shakespeare.”
“What?” she prompted, her mouth watering at the heat of him. At the portrait they made. “What do you want?” “I want you to take from me,” he said. “I want you to know that whatever you want, whatever you need, I can provide it. I will provide it.”
With a sly smile, she said, “Everyone loves a girl who can fight.” Those amber eyes tracked over hers, taking her in. “Truth.”
This wasn’t sport. It was punishment. They don’t like that we are the future.
