“Now you know,” he murmurs deep and firm. “I’m physically attracted to you. Always was.”
His mouth curls in a lazy grin. “I hope to afford you more clarity in the future.” The retort dies in my mouth as realization hits. “Did you just quote Pride and Prejudice?”
“Rye is not mooning over Brenna,” Whip says solemnly. He is no longer my best friend.
“I washed and changed my shirt. Can we please talk now?”
“Because I know you,” he says softly, firmly. “I’ve spent years trying not to learn you, and failing.”
I can’t be away from Brenna that long. I might…hurt something.
“Now, Berry, you’ll only regret it if you do. After all, you haven’t sampled what I can do.”
“So, yeah, I know. I know the risks better than you chuckleheads. But she’s finally let me in. And I’m going to take the chance, for however brief it might be. Even if I crash and burn and don’t survive the wreck. Because I can’t do anything less and still comfortably breathe.”
“Probably best if you don’t call yourself ‘Unkie John.’ That’s creepy.” “Whatever you say, Daddy.”
“I came here for you. Of course, I’m going to wait.”
“It’s Tuesday. I get Tuesday.”
“Never be afraid to fly, Bren. Even if it takes you from all you know.”
