Borel’s fallacy: “Phenomena with extremely low probabilities effectively never happen in real life.”
Rick Barnes

The anomaly was barely discernible on the horizon. But for an instant, something else had been briefly visible in the treetops—still several miles away. Stone clearly saw it, too.

At any given moment, an estimated several hundred amateur astronomers are watching the International Space Station as it passes overhead, visible from between two to six minutes. Now orbiting on a new axis, the ISS had attracted a flurry of attention from this small international community of “station gazers.”
Rick Barnes
An avid station gazer here, two minutes for a low (30 Degrees) pass as opposed to high (65 degrees or higher), which take about six minutes. It is also worth noting the brightness changes of the station's metal skin, reflecting the sun's light. Sometimes noticing redness as ISS enters Earths shadow,* where it spends half it's time. A sunrise / sunset about every 45 minutes! *umbra

The boy stopped, seeming very proud of himself. “The stars,” said Vedala, an astonished smile growing on her face. Vedala turned to Stone. “A rope to climb to the stars. “The kid is right,” she said. “That spire is a tether. It’s meant to connect to a rope hanging down from the heavens. “Kline has built a space elevator.”
Rick Barnes
Space elevator, first proposed by Dr. Chas. Cardona III, in one of many discussions we had, frequently hours-long and always illuminating.
