Under a prevention mind-set, we are focused on doing whatever we can to avoid loss—to protect what we have and play it safe. Sometimes a prevention mind-set can be effective, but it often holds us back from fully self-actualizing. Under a promotion mind-set, however, we stop taking the safe route, or the route someone else wants us to take, or the route we think someone else wants us to take.
