“Change is good. Change keeps us growing, and growing keeps us living. But don’t ever change so much that you forget who you used to be.” –Frances
“If you live a lie too long, it turns into the truth. Be careful which ones you decide deserve that kind of power.” –Enid
“We all have to do things we don’t want to do in this life. For example, right now, I have to keep not shooting you.”
There are people who say you never really escape from high school, you just keep finding it in different forms, over and over again, until it finally kills you. Those people are assholes, and should not be allowed in polite company. That doesn’t mean they’re wrong.
“Ain’t no party like a pity party, because a pity party only ends when you bury the bastards who made you feel sorry for yourself.”
“Your mother will resurrect me just so she can kill me if I let something happen to you, and she scares me.” Mary folded her arms. “She married in, remember? She doesn’t have that automatic ‘do what Mary says’ programming that blood family gets. If I let you burn your fingers off, or whatever, she’ll have me stuffed into a spirit jar before I can say ‘it wasn’t my fault.’”
“Whoever he is, murder him and make it look like an accident, but make sure you get away with his wallet,” Megan amended.
“Your family, your real family, will always welcome you home with open arms. Anyone who says you can lose their love isn’t really family, no matter what blood says.”
“Love is love. If anybody tries to tell you your love’s not worth having, shoot them in the kneecaps a couple of times. It won’t change their minds, but it’ll make you feel better.”
“There’s a place for everything, and everything has its place. It just so happens that this knife belongs in your spleen.”
“The thing to remember about allies is that they want you to be an ally right back. If you’re not a friend to your friends, you’re going to be an enemy eventually.”
“You don’t owe the world anything. That’s why you should try to make it better no matter what. A lack of obligation does not mean a lack of mercy.”
Stan Lee is a human dude from New York. I don’t know whether he’s ever met a superhero in real life. (He’s definitely met a cryptid—the cryptid population of New York and New Jersey is staggering—but that doesn’t mean he knew it was happening.) Still, there’s one thing he got absolutely right: if you can quip and joke and one-liner your way into a fight, the odds are good that it will throw your opponent off at least enough to make them forget about a few things.
I love her to death—which is completely true when I say it, since I’m already dead—but I swear asking her questions is like taking the midnight train to oh god why would you do that no, no, please stop talking-ville.
