Science can be Pandora’s beautiful box. And our curiosity about what science can offer has allowed us, in some cases, to unleash evils that have caused much suffering and death. In one case, it probably sowed the seeds of our eventual destruction.

Francis Galton published Hereditary Genius, outlining his plans for a better tomorrow. Galton argued that the British government should issue certificates of fitness to worthy young men and women and offer money for every child produced. And it wouldn’t be expensive.
