“What are you thinking?” I whisper. “How breathtaking dreams are when you meet them.”
Loren might not have been a Calloway sister, but he’s been more of a brother to me than any other man in my life.
I had never looked back in that way before, but for the very first time, I did. I looked back, and I only looked back at her.
“You can hate me for two days, Maximoff, but I’ll love you for a thousand more.”
Rose shouts at Xander to stay inside my uterus. Connor coaches me to breathe. Ryke talks to an EMT. Daisy sets a reindeer-shaped sugar cookie on my belly. Thank you, Daisy. It’s what I really wanted. And Lo is right beside me, clutching my hand, telling me that this is real. That no matter what happens, he’ll be here.
“And on my planet Thebula, all the waters has glitters. No one can drown,” she tells him, kicking her feet up on her plastic green chair.
“What’s this feeling that screams inside of me?” His glassy eyes carry their own extraordinary grin. Sparkling like cut diamonds. “Love,” he tells me with such certainty.
We speak of moving mountains, but sometimes people can completely rotate the world, just so someone else can land upright on their feet.
Vada is more cooperative than every baby I’ve ever had. She will hum theme songs to video games and minds her own business on international flights. I don’t think their baby is human. Vada is obviously some sort of deity. Like a Greek goddess. Like Athena—only I’d think Athena would have better sense than to transform into a little two-year-old.
How is Ryke Sexiest Man WorldWide before Loren Hale???? – Lily I believe you meant me – Connor
“My metaphorical funeral,” Charlie muses as he takes a seat next to Jane. “Will you cry for me, Uncle Loren? I’d cry for me.” From the way he speaks, fluidly, his voice like silk but filled with humor—the rest of the kids laugh.
“If you don't know, the thing to do is not to get scared, but to learn.”
“I’ve always loved winning, but I would lengthen the time it takes us to reach the end, just to spend one more second with you.”
Charlie is the one who extends his hand. “We, too, love you, Ben.”
