“Dominic, I really wouldn’t exercise your habit of dishing out cheesy chat lines on Ally,” Shaya advised him. “Derren’s kind of . . . protective.” The Phoenix enforcer was the image of innocence. “It’s just that she looks a lot like my next girlfriend.”
Her spine locked. “Who I speak to is my business. Should I grab a ladder so you can step out of it?”
Ally thought about simply ignoring the question. After all, getting involved in Roni’s “let’s annoy the creepy bitch” game might not be the wisest idea, since conflict between neighbors never ended well; she didn’t want to cause trouble for the Mercury wolves. But what came out of Ally’s mouth was: “Yes, it is.” And Roni couldn’t have looked any happier.
Instead of reacting to Ally’s dare, Rachelle spoke again to Roni. “Ally’s not even your pack mate.” Roni raised a brow. “Do I look affected by this?”
Marcus snorted. “Roni’s not harming her; she’s restraining her. My mate’s version of ‘harming’ goes something like hanging her opponent by their own intestines.”
Roni went nose to nose with Rachelle. “If you do, I’ll come for you. Whether Ally’s staying with our pack or not, I’ll come for you. I’m the last person you want tracking you down.”
Her blush made him smile. She could take an insult with a bored snort, could take a hit without a flinch, but a compliment? Too much for his little Seer to process.
