“That’s unnecessary.” Connor holds the main security guard’s befuddled gaze and has to add, “He’s my friend. He’s staying with me.”

I never, not in a million fucking years, thought I meant that much to him.

“He’s not Jesus,”

“I care about you,” I tell her like it shouldn’t be that crazy of a notion by now. “Not because you’re a part of my brother’s life but because you’re a part of mine. You’re my fucking friend. I love you, alright?”

I leaned on my brother. I was never scared to, and that’s how I know we’re both doing okay.
