“We’re in this together. We’re in this together. You can’t leave. You can’t go. Please, please, we need you. I love you. You’re all I have. I can’t do this without you.”
My story has been told, and the crippling weight of my secret has been shared. I did it. I’m finally in recovery.
Life is so beautifully fragile.
Love isn’t fragile. It’s fucking shatterproof. Unfortunately, our hearts are not.
But here’s the thing about forever: forever is a measure of time, and time, I’ve learned, is painfully fickle. It’s fleeting. Unpredictable. I don’t believe in forever; I believe in right now. And right now, I’m going to save the man who saved me.
“You know I can’t do that. I love you. You love me. You need to explain what’s going on because I will never stop fighting for the truth.”
“You don’t need to grovel. You don’t need to beg for my forgiveness. This isn’t that. You just need to love me, to promise me you’ll never put yourself in that kind of danger again. You just need to hold me, Gabe, please hold me, because the thought of you never holding me again was the only thing that truly wrecked me.”
“You want me to fuck you hard. Rough, like you asked me to.”
“I don’t want someone who kills for me. I don’t want someone who dies for me.” Swallowing the emotion, she raises both palms and clasps my face. “I just want someone who will live for me.”
“I love you, baby. So much. I’ll get you a real ring, a better ring, I promise. I just needed to know, right this fucking minute, that you’re never going away. You’re here, you’re mine. I need you by my side, in my arms, until I take my last breath.” “I’m here. I’m yours. You have me.”
“Life is a curious thing. Only a fraction of it lies within what it throws at us, while the greater part is determined by our responses to those things. It’s in how we react, cope, and ultimately, how we rise above.”
“I would have waited forever for you,” I say, pressing a kiss to her temple. “Even if you never loved me back, I would have waited, and I never would have regretted a single second of it.”
“To rank the effort above the prize may be called love.”
“I think, sometimes, the things that frighten us become more bearable when you don’t have to face them alone.”
With the stars by my side, I let out a gallant cry of joy as I jump. I soar. I fly. And I don’t look down.
