Mel Gough loves writing about love – but with a twist. Nominated for the 2019 Selfies Awards, her bisexual romantic suspense novel He is Mine is a typical Mel Gough story. She needs her HEA fix, but on the way there will be thorns and fire, and sometimes brimstone. All right, that might be over the top, especially since her stories are firmly based in the real world - though not always in the here and now.

Born in Germany, exploring other realities has been Mel’s siren call since she was young. Books opened up a plethora of worlds, and soon gave her a strong love of the English language. After an MA in Anthropology, field work in the middle of nowhere seemed like one adventure too far, so Mel settled in London, which, to misquote Dr. Johnson

I won’t say too much, but it’s a boy meets girl meets boy kinda story, and it’s quite dark and a little twisted.

In addition to that, there are two sequels to A World Apart, which are both half-written, and I’m hoping to work on book 2 in that series in the upcoming months. The second one is my favorite in the series.(less)

I think there are two reasons: I always have more than one project I’m working on, so if I get bored with one I can switch to the other (or do promo stuff, social media etc.). This habit comes from writing fanfic, where it’s quite normal to have several things going at once.

The other reason, I think, is because I write by hand first. A piece of paper is much less scary than a blank screen. It’s sort of small and fits onto your lap and it feels nice to the touch. And it’s not a blank page, either, it’s got lines. 😊(less)

My first Kindle Countdown deal

This week, I ran a Kindle Countdown deal and it might be useful for other writers to read  about my experience.

There are some very specific factors that helped make this promotion a success, so if you want to emulate what I did, do keep that in mind. Ymmv.

What’s a Countdown Deal?

First, a few words on terminology. A Countdown Deal is a promotional tool available to you when you enrol your book

“You’ll find this ridiculous, but I believe that God made us all, and that He knew what He was doing. He’s testing us, individually and as a people. And I don’t believe that He would make us the way we are, just to then turn His back on us. It’s people who invented a god that cruel, to torture one another.”
Mel Gough, A Leap of Faith

“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.”
Oscar Wilde, Lady Windermere's Fan
