M.E. BROWNING writes the Jo Wyatt Mysteries. The first in the series, SHADOW RIDGE, won the Colorado Book Award for Mystery and the silver medal in the popular fiction category of the Florida Book Awards. The adventures continue in MERCY CREEK, which launches in October 2021. Writing as Micki Browning, she penned the Agatha-nominated and award-winning Mer Cavallo mysteries, ADRIFT and BEACHED, and her short stories and nonfiction have appeared in anthologies, textbooks, diving and mystery magazines. Micki’s novels draw on her twenty-two years of experience in law enforcement. An FBI National Academy graduate, she retired as a captain before turning to a life of crime…fiction.

This may seem counterproductive, but think about it. Every story starts in response to a change in your hero's personal life. I write crime fiction. If I, as the author, don't know how the crime was committed, I won't be able to guide (and occasionally trip up) my sleuth. Having that critical information will allow me to determine what evidence is important, what can be misinterpreted, and what means nothing at all-- but may appear to be important early in the story. Good luck!(less)

Yes! Two of my short stories will be released within the next several months.

"It's Not O.K. Corral" will appear in MALICE DOMESTIC 15: Murder Most Theatrical. Originally scheduled to coincide with the mystery conference, the anthology from Wildside Press is now slated to launch later this summer.

"Einstein Was A Surfer" was written for THE GREAT FILLING STATION HOLDUP, a crime fiction anthology inspired by the songs of Jimmy Buffett. Each of the included stories is titled after one of Jimmy's songs. Look for it from Down & Out Books in March 2021!

Writing to a theme is a wonderful way to explore new settings and experiment with different points of view or even genres. Plus, it's a heck of a lot of fun!(less)
