The Time Traveler's Wife
by
"When I read this book, it absolutely sucked me in. I was as devoted to the main characters as they were to themselves. The end of the book left me inconsolably heartbroken - part for the tragedy at the end (no spoilers) and part because it was over. The movie, on the other hand, was a total disappointment. While I really like the actors who played the main characters, I just couldn't believe in their assumed chemistry. The film was clumsy and halting, painfully slow and superficial. What I thought of as a deep connection between two people just did not exist in the film. Again, heartbroken."

The Princess Bride

"This was the first meta book I ever read and it was absolutely hilarious and charming right from the start. I kept going online to figure out if I had actually gotten an original book or if it was some kind of weird abridged version. Because it is so weird, and is so very rich with a sense of humor about fairy tale genre that is self-conscious while unapologetic. It's also much more graphic and beautifully discovered as a universe of stories. I do really love the movie, but they seem like two completely different things in my mind. While I go around quoting "Inconceivable!" all the time, I feel like I internalized the book much more. For example, sometimes I hear in my head, "I am the QUEEEEEN" for no reason at all, and it makes me laugh."
