I really, really hope 'A Little Life' wins, it was a truly astonishing novel and in my personal opinion so much better than all of the others that it was the stand out winner!!

The shortlist for the Man Booker Prize 2015 is as follows:
• Satin Island by Tom McCarthy
• A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James
• A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler
• The Year of the Runaways by Sunjeev Sahota
• A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
• The Fishermen by Chigozie Obioma

So 3 out of our 6 collective favourites are in the shortlist. I expect the biggest shock ‘exits’ will be Lila and The Green Road.

You were half right with your shortlist! Well done on reading all of the longlist- I only managed two. Which omission are you most upset about? Are there any books that made the shortlist that you disliked?

Thanks for your comment. It was quite intense toward the end of the six weeks but I really enjoyed it and will definitely do it again next year.

My shortlist was more my favourites than a list of what I thought they might go for.

I was disappointed that The Chimes by Anna Smaill didn't make it onto the short list, I don't know if its one of the two you've read? It was probably the one that surprised me the most, I thought it was utterly beautiful and I could've done with it being a good 700 pages longer! There were so many snippets of fascinating characters in this whole new world she had created; definitely left me wanting to know more.

I was so relieved that the Anne Enright book wasn't shortlisted as truly it is one of the most tediously boring novels I have encountered in as long as I can remember.

Of the books on the short list the only one I really disliked was 'A Brief History of Seven Killings' to be honest I was expecting better, its too long and I found it very boring. That being said I can see why it was included.

I enjoyed 'The Year of The Runaways' but personally felt it was just a nice story and not exceptional as I would expect a Booker winner to be. IMHO it was included as it covers a politically 'on topic' theme i.e. immigration. Most of the others on the short list (apart from Satin Island) I enjoyed reading just to my mind they weren't the best on offer in the long list.

A Little Life was so much better than the other 12 I was be astonished if it didn't win....

"A Little Life" is so far above the other 11 there should be no question. I found "Satin Island lame and "A brief killing..." boring, loved "The Fishermen", a tragic story; am finally finishing "The Moor's Account", so no comment yet. The others were good in their own way, but none can touch "A Little Life".

And the winner is.... Marlon James with 'A Brief History of Seven Killings'.
