If nothing else, Twilight shows us that there are still people in the world who find spineless, drooling girls and neurotic, control-freakish boys appealing.

Twilight somehow always makes every list. Along with The Book of Mor..."
The Book of Mormon and the King James bible are mentioned separately on the list, as the are completely different works of writing.

Didn't really like Twilight myself.

The author Yuehai Xiao seems to be passionate about freedom and social justice, as demonstrated through his writing. Extending his passion for social justice from education to politics, in October 2012, Yuehai published this 318-page book titled "Crossing the Seas: A Diary of My Thoughts" in Bloomington, Indiana. The book is a collection of inspiring, awakening and profound thoughts Yuehai shared on Facebook, as well as his interactions with top political and business leaders, celebrities and scholars who became enthralled with his posts.
This is a book with awakening thoughts about ultimate freedom, equality, and world peace! Here is a stunning review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...Crossing the Seas: A Diary of My Thoughts

I suggest this to be a great book about the Civil War politics.

you can get it online in pdf format, for example --
Uncle Tom's Cabin

Amen, Sister Sharon. Very well said. BTW, you're going to love "Unbroken: . . ."

Thanks, John. So far, so good. I did not realize so much happened in the Pacific.

I would think a list about books that encourage thought, would actually have deep profound books that well make in think about life. If Harry Potter and Hunger Games make you think hard about life, man, I don't even need to go further on that one.

i don't think you can, once they are on there, they're on there."
Also Harry Potter is a series that has touched many lives including my own! I duly think it deserves to be on this list. I cant argue with Twilight being kicked off though!;)

I don't know, Andrew. HBS wasn't too subtle in getting some of her points across. Even so, Uncle Tom's Cabin was pretty moving, even for a geezer like myself. I might try your suggestion, tho.

As soon as someone tells me that "it behooves me" to read it, I immediately question its value. You are criticising someone's opinion because it doesn't mesh with yours. I think it behooves you to let others think for themselves.

Ditto. So tired of all the "I'm nothing without a man" stories. What a horrible lesson to teach girls.

If you like history, and in particular WWII history, I recommend "Unbroken" by Laura Hilenbrand.

I know it's available for Kindle. If I remember correctly it's very inexpensive if not free.

I bought it recently on kindle. Actually I think it was free.

I just checked Amazon, Debbie. They have it in paperback.
