Stories gift us with the ability to live countless lives.

In these lives we are able to conjure magic, battle against political corruption, pilot a spaceship, fly on the backs of dragons, or patrol through the jungles on a foreign planet. They intrigue us, scare us, make us laugh, make us cry, make us cringe, and make us mad.

Being able to feel so much by simply reading words is the true power of a story, and I hope you find power in mine.

I'm a Fantasy geek, especially on the "gritty" or "grimdark" side of it, so most of the worlds I've experienced are based around bloody, ruthless society, and let's be honest, I wouldn't survive long in that. I would travel to Elan, a world built by Michael J. Sullivan in his Riyria series. The world he's built is as beautiful as it is ugly, littered with ancient ruins, hidden cities, and vast lands of green forests and rolling hills. I would spend my time searching for ancient tombs and castles, discovering the secrets of a long forgotten world.

But, if i'm being honest, if i'm able to travel to a fictional world, I think it's safe to assume that the same rules of that world applies to me. That being said...Star Wars universe, baby. Who doesn't want to have telekinetic power, the skill to wield a light-saber, or fly spend their time flying their spaceship from planet to planet? I'll tell you who. This guy. (less)

Containing and Controlling my Creativity

The thing I struggle most with when it comes to writing is how long my chapters/stories become. Recently, not only have I completely changed the format on what I use for writing (Scrivener is amazing, all) but I've also set a goal for an average of 6,000 words for a goal per chapter.

As I'm writing my first draft of Deceit, the second book in The Light of the New World series, I find myself writin Read more of this blog post »

At 50% I thought this was just going to be a simple plotted “opposites attract” story. Wrong. So wrong, and so cool. All the signs were there, but this was so masterly crafted that I didn’t see it. It’s been a while since I’ve been mind-blown by a tw ...more

It did take a second to get used to the writing style, and I was a bit hesitant when I learned it was third person omniscient, but this did turn out to be one of my favorite books this year.

The world building is insane here, and it never got old. Ch

“These are the stories of Rawley and Baelin Terricaut, the founding brothers of the Terricaut Academy, and those who stood with them as the shadows rose. It is the legacy of us Oathsworn and the war we waged against the dark.”
