In the land of Shire, there are 3 kingdoms, each ruled over by a queen. The queens are all sisters, fight a lot, and are each very different from each other. At the end of every month, they hold a ball at one of the 3 queens' palaces, to celebrate the end of an old month, and the beginning of a new one.

After each ball, rumors are often spread about the royal families, and what happens at the parties. There are 3 newspapers, one in each country, and the newspaper writers are always starved for gossip and news of what happens at the balls. Most of the time, these rumors are lies, but they can still turn people against each other.

But besides the rumors, and squabbling queens, the only problem in the land of Shire is the troublesome witches who lurk in the forests....

These creatures have human bodies, but their souls originate from a parallel realm known as the Otherworld. Mist Haven is built around a convergence of ley lines and telluric currents that cause strange and anomalous phenomena to occur, mainly the formation of a portal to the Otherworld and the perpetual gloomy weather.
