I clearly remember reading this book at the laudry-mat during a long hot Houston summer. Life was real and sweaty for me at the time...and Hardy decribed his female character as "ethereal" and I thought, "are you crazy!" He lost me there....

I love Hardy. I love the women in this book. I read this book in high-school as I was applying to colleges. It put everything into perspective!!!
Sue is unbelievably vexing. And the poor children--how could she not have seen it coming?
