This is one of my favorites, and I just re-read it as I'm in France and we started listening to it on a family road trip to Brittany, where we visited the Ile de Ré, where the siege of Rochelle happens in the book.
And I have to say, Mon dieu! It remains just as good as I remembered! I love the over brashness of the young garcon, D'Argtagnan, and the richness of the backgrounds of each of the four musketeers.

My dad bought this for me when I was a kid and insisted that I read it. He was so right to insist. I love this book. Five Stars!!!

reading this soon after finishing The Count of Monte Cristo was probably a bad idea, since it pales in comparison. I found this incredibly dull until the last quarter of the book, which actually builds some characters and relationships, and makes you care a bit about what happens in this swashbuckling adventure. Obviously it has it's place in popular culture, but i wont be reading it again. ever.
