This is a classic very deserving of its status. Yes, there are some cheesy bits, but the plot flows so nicely and swiftly, it is a delightful book to read. The first few pages are a bit less promising, but after you get into it, you don't want to put it down.
The characters fell to the extremely good or extremely bad, but that didn't bother me, somehow. I guess the corniness fits in with the super gothic novel. I love the structure of the book as all diaries, letters, and newspaper articles. It's ...more

Kinda bereft of sensuality. The film had a superior storyline. In the book, Mina is not Dracula's reincarnated all-time love, she's just some random girl he bites.

Most confusing chapter: VII, the weather chapter. Is this just telling us of Dracula's power to control the weather? Maybe. There is little in this whole book concerning Dracula directly.

Van Helsing has a tendency to blabber on and on about nothing. And, the men make some really silly decisions at times (especially when it comes to Mina). But, this was still a really fun read and it was easy to see why it has become a classic.
One thing I was really impressed by was Stoker's descriptive skills. There are some beautiful descriptions of landscape, weather, and location in this book. ...more
