I came late to this classic series, but I can understand why it has so many followers. The idea of large, expanding universe where Earth is definitely not the center of civilization (and apparently only a very very small part of it - mostly harmless), and that we can hitchhike to any planet we want in the galaxy, and meet with so many interesting iconic characters, from a depressed robot to the sadistic aliens who like to use poetry to torture people - it's so enticing and interesting ...more

Great book - trilogy in five pieces. Humourus and absurdal. I loved it and it made me laugh that hard that my rib muscles were aching for next three days.
Such an absurd hilarious book! XD I actually liked the humor, but the racist and on the other hand philosophical tone of the writer bothered me at times.
