I would have given this just 1 star but the fact that it occasionally made me laugh and roll my eyes ("what the hell am I reading here??") was enough for me to throw another one behind it. As much as I've always chuckled at the mere idea that someone manages to shock with art I don't think that something should be published just because of shock value. Talented writer, gnarly subject. Read it super fast mainly to get it over with, definitely not a light read and don't try reading it at lunch.

Read late in my beatnik phase. It's enormously difficult and the subject matter doesn't make it any easier. It's not a book I cherish or want to read again...but I'm glad I read it when I did.

I only got 10 pages in and just can't make sense of this. Maybe if I were on heavy drugs it'd be better?
