I hate adding books to my everyone-liked-but-me shelf, believe me. It was my second try to read it actually: it couldn’t engage me for the first time, and I thought I just was not in the mood, so I put it aside. For the second time, it was still boring. But I didn’t give up and tried to find those amazing qualities the positive reviews mention. Sadly, with no avail.

Both Ty and Zane irritated me, and the jumping viewpoint made them indistinguishable.

I read lots of reviews about this series and I saw all the WARNINGS if I start reading this I will become ADDICTED to Ty & Zane.... I didn't listen and what have I become ------> a total JUNKIE and I'm gonna be needing my second fix really soon (if not already today)!

So, I'm not the biggest fan of super involved crime suspense novels or NCIS (*ducks* I love Law & Order: SVU though). I heard about Cut & Run, heard it was a crime-like novel with M/M, so of course you know, I'm down. I've had this book for months, pushing it to the side, telling myself I'll get to it sooner or later.

Then you encounter super fans who gush "Ty & Zane" and probably sweat droplets in the form of their faces in their sleep, making me wonder about the hype but eh...I'm still pushing ...more

Update 16Mar2014 I enjoyed the first 70% or so of this as much as I remembered, and the buddy read with Kate was a blast. My enthusiasm flagged for a while after that, and it became increasingly difficult to stick with it and finish it. My attention really wandered at the end.

I still love the characters as much as ever, but despite my best efforts to ignore them, the editing issues really got in the way. Not only the plot inconsistencies and stupidities, but also some significant pacing issues. I originally rated this 5 stars, and would probably rate it 3 based on this read, so I'm compromising with 4 now. I've always thought of Sticks & Stones as my favorite in the series, so I'm eager to move on to it now and see if that's still true.

Update 09May2012 - Reread yet again in anticipation of the next new release (and because it fit the category for Bingo). I tried to step back and read with a more critical eye this time. After all, I already know the characters and story, so surely I should be able to appreciate the mechanics of what went on behind the curtain to make it all happen. To a certain extent I was able to do that. But overall, I kept finding myself sucked back in, reading quickly to see what happens next even though I darn well knew exactly what was going to happen next.

I read a blog post a while back describing an Evil Book Fairy who goes through your favorite books and changes them horribly since you last read them, so when you reread them you lose all the magic. Often you even wonder why the heck you loved it in the first place. The EBF has wrought her despicable magic on some of my favorite books, but I'm very happy to report that this is most decidedly not one of them!

15Sep2011 Re-read in eager anticipation of Divide & Conquer's upcoming release. Loved it at least as much the second (third? fourth?) time as the first.

What I thought after reading Book 1

This series was recommended to me by my friends on GR and the first in m/m cops/thriller genre.
Cut & Run is basically a love story of the two most unlikely characters ever – Zane, the FBI agent, who went to pieces after his wife’s death a few years ago – became an alcoholic and drug addict, which he has been working on overcoming, is teamed up with Ty, former Marine officer, former bisexual, and a loud and absolute jerk, to solve a case involving a serial killer.

They hate each other from the first moment they meet but by the middle of the story, these two guys have given in to the attraction that both have been trying to hide from each other. These are two hard-edged men who find it difficult to trust each other. I loved that the two were not these perfect, tanned, metro sexual clones but men with flaws and baggage and that they didn’t immediately fall into bed with each other but that we get to see how they get to know and respect each other first.

I am not sure how the writers managed to get me to get into these two men – because despite some things that really irritated me, I was enthralled by Zane & Ty (yes, Ty, I even forgave you for your behavior on the flight to New York – really, pinch the flight attendant’s ass is so just not cool baby!!!). It’s amazing how they slowly but surely crept into my heart with no sign of leaving for a while!!!!
Okay, here’s the thing – how on earth did Zane stay an agent with all his drink/drug problems? Allright, this is fiction, not real but hey this did sound a bit far-fetched.

I thought there was too much of bickering between them and at times found the switch from the one POV to the other a bit confusing….who said that??????
Geez….talk about these guys getting hit on – shots and more shots…..oh why didn’t Ty take Zane to the hospital after the bomb explosion I wonder????? How could he survive the wounds – oh yes Ty is a former Marine guy!!!!
So what happened when I turned the last page?????? Yes, I wanted more of T & Z immediately – guess it means I did enjoy this book!!!!!

2.0 for writing and execution, 5 stars for enjoyment, plot and themes

It's hard to justify that rating because really, this isn't that well written. I mean, the writing itself was okay most of the time, but the way it was written, the execution, ugh. People really need to pay good editors to go over their stuff before they self publish. This is better than most as you can see by my and others ratings but I think with good editing this could have been picked up by a regular press.

2012 Review:
liked a lot of things about Cut and Run. Character is priority number one for me. I want to love the MCs or I'm not coming back for the sequel. That's a risky thing for an author(s) to do. But they made it work in a way that revealed more of each man's past and how he copes. I never lost sight of who they were. Bravo.

The romance was a nice, slow build. It could have used a few more sex scenes though. The book was such a tease at times! Okay, a lot of times. Just when you think they're about to get down to it, someone decides they're tired (of all things) or something else. This is authorial torture of the reader-not nice. However, I loved Ty and Zane so much that it was tolerable.

The way they got under my skin was a gradual thing too, very slow and sneaky. They were unsentimental while still being sweet and sexy together. I would read about them taking care of each other any day.

The POV flipped around almost too much, even in the middle of a paragraph at times. It was disconcerting, especially in the first sex scene, but I got comfortable with it after about halfway through.

I wanted to smack Ty for being such a slut, especially when Zane gave up all his vices. Luckily, Ty is an adorable punk. (But Zane is The Man.)

Serial killers always interest me and this one didn't disappoint, even though it was easy to spot the crazy. I would have liked a bit more with Henninger at the end. Also, I thought his partner, Morrison, was going to be his accomplice in the murders. Maybe he'll show up in a later book?? I got really into the story once the Poe connection surfaced and things started picking up. The ending was exciting and I'm ready for more! ...After I dip into some Voinov. So many books and not enough time to read 20 at once. ...more

An over-all fun, entertaining read! The plot was fast-paced and interesting, though the weird time gaps that happen a few times threw me a little.

I love how affectionate and funny these two are with each other, and I look forward to seeing how their relationship progresses.

Cut & Run is a gripping, suspense-packed thriller with likeable main characters and romantic elements.
If you can hold on to your disbelief in regard to most of the action and threats the MCs have to deal with on a regular basis and overlook that many of them are rather predictable -- predictable in the way that can be found in many action books or movies, like stupid and illogical decisions on the MCs side that are crucial for those action scenes to happen in the first place -- this actually is ...more

Sì, certamente è un ottima storia. Il suspense (chi è l'assassino????) mi ha spinta per leggere senza sosta! Penso solo che ci sono tanti momenti di troppo cambio di punto di vista (come solo 3 righe per ogni)... non mi sono mai piaciuti libri scritti cosi... ma tranne questo, tutto altro è spettacolare.

I'm re-reading the entire series, this is absolutely one of the best FBI series around. For Christmas, I'mmgetting my family all the Ty Grady tee shirts! Schitt creek, glock paper scissors, undercover, save the kitties.... they don't know what the tee shirts are from but I will cackle like crazy whenever someone wears one ...more
