I have mixed emotions about this book. I felt that this book moved slow. I enjoyed seeing things through Tris and Four eyes. That was the interesting part of the book.

I'm always skeptical when I read a YA dystopian series. I always enter with expectations, reservations, and the baggage of the series I have read before. I just finished Allegiant, and even I am surprised to say that I actually did like this last book of the Divergent Series.

First of all, everyone seems to be comparing it to Hunger Games--as I did often while reading and also in my review of the first book--and most of these people just keep raving about how much better Collins's series is. Eh, I'm always skeptical when I read a YA dystopian series. I always enter with expectations, reservations, and the baggage of the series I have read before. I just finished Allegiant, and even I am surprised to say that I actually did like this last book of the Divergent Series.

First of all, everyone seems to be comparing it to Hunger Games--as I did often while reading and also in my review of the first book--and most of these people just keep raving about how much better Collins's series is. Eh, I would have to disagree. While I do think that the first book of the HG series was quite spectacular, the rest of the series frustrated me (especially Katniss's naivety) and I found the final book especially unbelievable. And I just liked Tris more, even though she didn't always think her actions through. Excuse my sidetracking... I guess my point is that it really comes down to preference to some extent. And let's face it, neither series is even in the same ballpark as HP, so just stop comparing them to it.

There were a lot of things I disliked about the series and the final book. In Allegiant, the POV rotates between Tris and Tobias. I preferred Tris since she was the narrator throughout the rest if the series, but, I get it. I also thought Roth brought in a whole lot of new information and content that was overwhelming and a bit forced. I wondered if she changed her mind about how she wanted to end the series after the second book was released.

While a lot of reviews express readers' disappointment and even anger about the end, I liked it. Umm, I'll leave it there.

I must also add that even though I liked Tris and the other characters, I may have purposely remained detached from them. I think it was simply hesitation to trust the author not to kill them (I was scarred after recently finishing GOT), but I didn't react strongly when some characters did die. I wanted to, but I just didn't. Is this a fault of the writing? I'm not sure.

Well now I'm even doubting my rating of the book, but I did enjoy it overall. I was satisfied at the end and was happy it wrapped up.
