Gripping, upsetting, redeeming and beautiful.
These two sisters and their reaction to war reaching their home is quite intriguing. Never having experienced war in this manner I am always curious what my reaction would be. I love both viewpoints and in the end both were heroes. I also love the course of their relationship with each other. As people share experiences it will sometimes naturally bring them together as well as help them understand each other's perspectives. Heartbreaking and haunting. A book you won't be be able to put down or let go of. These characters will become part of you.
Set during WWII in occupied France -- there is much in this book that is difficult to read. But it is also a story of love, courage , strength and survival. And it's a story of women and what we do to protect those we love.

I don’t quite know where to start. That was heartbreaking and tragic and cruel, yet also beautiful and inspiring and romantic.
The two sisters at the heart of the book spend lots of time apart so it’s hard to connect with them at the start. Yet as the story moves along and they are tested in so many ways, you really start to bond very deeply with their stories.
