I read this book over and over again when I was a kid. I loved the descriptions of pioneer life and how Pa could make a toy out of anything, even a pig's bladder (okay-that part's a little gross but still fascinating to a kid.)

There is so much love and warmth in this book. I could smell the food, see the sights and hear all the sounds of all 4 seasons. The hardships of the times weren't the focus but rather the family safe and cozy inside the snug little log house.

I've loved this series of books since I was a child. This book covers a year in the life of the INgalls family as they live in a log cabin in Wisconsin. Most of the book is spent describing day to day events intermixed with storied Pa told his kids. I enjoy the books where Laura is older more but this is a good introduction to the series.
