Just under a 4. Cute enough, and I liked it more as it went on (as is the general rule for me when it comes to Gaiman's writing).
Review to come.

A short chapter book for children that Gaiman wrote (it's implied that he wrote it in one day as part of World Book Day), it's another story set in the world of Norse mythology, and reads a good deal like "The Sea of Trolls-lite."

Odd is a misfit in a Norse community, a small boy who likes to spend time to himself. His father died while viking, and Odd suffered an accident that left him lamed for life. Meanwhile, all of Midgard is suffering under an eternal winter. It turns out that the Aesir (at

This is the story of Odd a young Viking boy who is not quite accepted in his village due to an unfortunate accident that had crippled his foot and leg. As he leaves his village to try and make his own way in life he comes across a fox, a bear and an Eagle. Nothing is quite as it seems and he ends up on an adventure that he would never have imagined, meeting the most interesting of characters.

I would recommend this book to anyone who really enjoys Norse Mythology.

A charming little book steeped in Norse gods and a positive outlook on life. Neil always writes beautifully, no matter how young the intended audience, and he has such a knack for bringing ancient myths to life. Lovely story!

This is a cute little book. None of the power I otherwise associate with Gaiman, but that's fine for what it is. A young Norwegian boy named Odd lives during the time of the Vikings and is involved in an adventure with some of the Norse gods. He's a likable & surprisingly capable little character, and what happens has just enough magic in it to keep the action interesting. ...more

Gaiman shines at storytelling, and I can't resists a fantasy novel based on Norse mythology, but the story drips with sexism that made in places made me glad for the short length of the book. ...more

A short story from Neil Gaiman. A fairy tale to recommend to readers of Riordan's Olympian Series because it involves human contact with the gods. The tone of the book is light. Funny comes through some characters and a happy ending make this less dark than most of Gaiman's work written for younger readers. ...more

I read this when I was having difficulty sleeping after having a pretty bad day. And it helped. I loved Odd and the story was just lovely. So thanks Neil Gaiman!
