I read some Witcher (much belatedly). It's good stuff—really good. Brought back feelings of reading Michael Moorcock, R.E. Howard, and Fritz Leiber, though I believe Sapkowski confers more overall depth and motivation to his characters, especially his females, than those others master storytellers. Sword & sorcery is definitely one of those things all of them do well (understatement). I look forward to reading more of Geralt of Rivia's exploits. Highly recommended, and, yes, I know I need to rea ...more

Fun, yet...

I don't know. These stories were odd. Or the telling of them. I enjoy Geralt, and the stories are exciting, typically fun, but nothing endearing or compelling. Delivery of this whole was different too, definitely one of those times I'd much rather have had a physical book to flip more easily back and forth in. Sidekicks and enemies, monsters and intrigues, all abound but it all just feels like it's lacking something. I'll read the next, see where it leads.

This enchanting book full of adventures, horror, humour, love, tragedy, longing and poise was unlike ANYTHING I have read. It contains a series of stories and vignettes that come together in a brilliant non-linear arc, leaving the reader gasping for more.
What were those tales? Let me merely list them, although it really wouldn’t do justice to the depth of this arc.
1. The Voice of Reason 1
2. The Witcher
3. The Voice of Reason 2
4. A Grain of Truth
5. The Voice of Reason 3
6. The Lesser Evil
7. The Voi

I enjoyed it. Might have been 5 stars if I hadn't seen the NetFlix series. I just thought Henry Cavill breathed so much more into the character than this book does. ...more

Boy what a joy this book was. Glad there are more in the series. While it has elements of other faNTASY BOOKS, A COUPLE THING MAKE IT STAND APART.

The monsters are fascinating. He is much more creative than most authors.
The morally ambivalent hero is trying to have a code as he goes killing monsters and being annoyed by the human race.

( there are more things but i will have to extend this on another day)

Entertaining.

Interesting to see the differences between the books and the Netflix show. The author is good at finding outcomes that you don’t expect, but make sense.
