This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion. I don't think I have ever seen on statuses for books I have read before so many people professing their love for a book! But, for me it was everything from just okay at times to drawn out and boring. Sorry everyone! *ducks as things are thrown his way*

I really liked this book though or maybe because it deals with topics everyone is concerned with: human relationsship, friendship, being mobbed, memories on schooldays, growing up, divorced parents, gender orientation and everday life. You simply care for story of the main characters (Eli, Oscar, Tommy, Locke/Virginia). The book is written in a modern way. Well, that was a very creepy read! I'll come up with more to say here after I've had some time to digest it all. I'm going with 3.5/5.0 stars that I'm rounding up to 4.

Alright, spent the day considering what I felt, and I've decided to keep my overall rating at 3.5/5.0, but I'm not going to round up. I'm going to round down. I feel that a few of the uncomfortable aspects of the story detracted enough from my enjoyment to go with only three stars. Alright, spent the day considering what I felt, and I've decided to keep my overall rating at 3.5/5.0, but I'm not going to round up. I'm going to round down. I feel that a few of the uncomfortable aspects of the story detracted enough from my enjoyment to go with only three stars. If you're reading this and considering picking it up, I feel obligated to warn you that the uncomfortable topics I'm speaking of include (and don't read any more of this paragraph if you don't want to be spoiled) (view spoiler) Tough topics, but they were in context.

Despite that, if you are a horror fan, the rest of the story is good. Lots of dark atmosphere and some really horrifying moments keep the tension high. And I really liked seeing the interaction between our two main characters, Oskar and Eli. Without saying too much or giving anything away, it was through their relationship that I drew some parallels between this story and both Dracula (well, naturally, right, considering the topic) and Frankenstein. I enjoyed both of those connections and exploring what they meant and felt like to me. To expound a little, and I feel like this would be a spoiler (so skip the rest of this paragraph if you don't want to know) (view spoiler)

I do agree with some of my friends in the Horror Aficionados group who I read with, that there were some side storylines in the book that really weren't needed for the overall story, and probably would have been better left out. But, having seen the movies before reading this, I didn't mind so much as I was looking for more info. And if you have seen the movies, there is more info here that certainly makes it worth reading.
