I finished this a while ago but I was on vacation and hadn't had time to write a review. And it turned out Into the Drowning Deep was an excellent vacation book.
As long as there was life in the sea, there would be teeth.
I think the best part of the book was the novelty. We don't see nearly as many siren horror books as we should. On top of that the writing was excellent.
The trouble with discovery is that it goes two ways. For you to find something, that thing must also find you.

In expanding on the ideas originally introduced in Rolling in the Deep, Mira Grant has taken a good idea, and made it truly great.
I'm not a person who likes the sea, exactly - others may call it paranoia, but I prefer to term it a healthy respect for the home of prehistoric monsters who enjoy tasty, tasty people. When I read Rolling in the Deep, I was mildly uncomfortable at times, but the short format kept it from truly getting under my skin. This time though? Far from lessening the tension, th ...more

I really did enjoy this book over-all and am glad I read it! For awhile though I thought it was going to be a new favorite, and...not quite, but I still enjoyed reading it.
I fell in love with many of the characters, and some that I hated it was a "love to hate you" thing, particularly with Michi and Jacques, a married couple that hunt animals for sport and take a lot of joy in killing things for, in my honest opinion, no good reason. Don' ...more

A science vessel has set sail to find out what happened to the passengers of the Atargatis, a ship that had gone to make an entertaining show about mermaids. Among the passengers on the new ship is Victoria Stewart, whose sister was on the Atargatis. She, along with a few others on the ship, are convinced real mermaids killed the crew of the Atargatis.

I'm struggling with my thoughts on this one because I absolutely loved it but I don't know if I loved it as much as I loved the prequel, Rolling in the Deep? I'm still gonna give it five-stars though because when you boil down my thoughts, this book is phenomenal even if there were moments where my attention might have wavered a bit. Mermaids are still terrifying, the characters are amazing, there's a sapphic romance that we love to see & the bloodshed is *chef's kiss*.

After devouring and loving Rolling In The Deep, I couldn’t wait to get on the ocean, set sail, and see how this next venture would wind up.
It’s been seven years since all were lost on the Atargatis. It’s no longer top news and many think it was a hoax. Imagine Network isn’t done yet. They commission a new ship, a much larger crew, security guards, and supposedly failproof systems to protect them from what they now know lives under the waves, deep in the Marianna Trench.

The ocean is home to many myths. Some are deadly. 7 years ago the Atargatis set off on a voyage to the Mariana Trench to film a mockumentary about real life mermaids. It was lost at sea, no survivors. Now a new crew has been assembled, but they aren't here to entertain. Some seek to validate their lifes work. Some seek a great hunt. Some seek the truth. But for young Victoria Stewart, it is about finding out the fate of the sister she lost. The secrets of the deep come with a price.
