Richard Wright is a judge and prophet of his times, as well as prescient to modern race relations. In this seemingly hopeless tragedy, I'd argue he offers and calls for an inhuman and God-like grace towards both his guilty protagonist (which represents the sum of black people in Jim Crow America seen as guilty in the white man's eye before any crime has been committed...how predictive of our current state today and oh how nothing has really changed) as well as the white man (or again the whole o ...more
