This book took me over 8 hours to read. Although painful, I kept reading because a) I am very loyal to books that I have started (very rarely do I abandon books), and b) I felt like something was going to eventually happen, maybe next chapter, or the one after...NOPE. I really wasn't sure what to think of this book when I first started it. However by about fifty pages in, something clicked and I started to enjoy it. It makes so many statements about society, snobbery, class, women, innocence - however ironic the title may be! Stick with it and enjoy Wharton's dry wit, I definitely wasn't disappointed.

A well-crafted delicious tale of romance and forbidden fruit leaving the reader constantly wondering,"'Where do we go from here?" and with the reader having own wishes regarding how the story may play out - wishes destined to be either dashed or fulfilled. Well worth reading! This book won the 1921 Pulitzer Prize and it deserves such a prize.
