I always meant to read this book, given that it was in the best selling lists so long but i held back because of the very mixed reviews, and women seemed to like it more, so i put it into the (smarter) 'chick lit' category. I wanted a light read, so i said here goes.... I started the book but was less than convinced of the book's basic premise. I really enjoyed this book. I liked the clever way the author spanned 20yrs by only setting the book on one day each year. I felt I got to know the characters and while at times I felt frustrated with them and at other times liked them, they were always human and believable.
They were also consistent to the end. Some of my favourite lines came from Emma. "...my brain was gone soft like something left at the back of the fridge." I also liked the description of Dexter as "not vain, but at times did ...more
