As someone who has been interested in checking out Leigh Bardugo's books for several years, I really wanted to love Ninth House. Sadly, Ninth House ultimately proved to be a rather mediocre book, in my opinion. As far as the characters go, Darlington was definitely my favorite character in the book, and I really wish that he had been featured in the book more than he was. Alex was also a good and likable character, but I ultimately just liked Darlington the most.

To appreciate this story of “Alex” Galaxy Stern, readers have to dive into a surprisingly seedy world. Raised by a “New Age” mother in California, Alex not only sees ghosts. She’s assaulted by them. Odd. Different. Interesting. I’ve always been fascinated by magic in our realm and mixing that with Leigh Bardugo (one of my favorite authors) was a straight win.

I enjoyed this book and inhaled it as fast as I picked it up. I fell in love with characters, flaws and all. I love how, even with the major twists, everything seemed to come to an end and (possibly?) set up for another book.

Could Bardugo be a possible alumni of the Manuscripts herself? (I jest, I promise).
