This is a second attempt for me in writing this review and the first attempt was much better. Such a bummer, I was just editing and lost the whole thing!! I don’t know if I have it in me to write it all again, it probably lacks the emotion it deserves.

4 + stars** I am a little tossed up on how to rate this book. The book started out pretty good, but turned out great. I think the reason I wasn’t as into it at first was because the plot set up was basically a combination of the first two books in this series. I don’t mind rereading books (especially KA’s) and I often look for story lines/ themes I have enjoyed in the past. It just wasn’t as fresh as what I am use to with KA.

Tanner Layne and Raquel Merrick (Rocky) fell in love when she was 17 and he was 21, then three years later they were torn apart because Rocky left him for reasons unknown. Both were heartbroken, moved on to life without each other, but really never moved on in their hearts. Well 18 years later they are thrown back together, there is bitterness, at least on Layne’s part, and there were marriages to other people that didn’t turn at well. **Very similar to For You and Colt and Feb’s history. You find out that Layne has two teenage sons and he is just getting to know them after his long absence. What was great to find out is that Alpha males breed spectacular Alpha mini-me’s and I got to be a creeper and lust after them as much as I did Layne. Also you find out that Rocky is dealing with history. Her mom was assassinated and her dad shot when she was younger because of her dad being a cop. This was the result because he got to close to some bad stuff. Also Layne was a badass Private Investigator in this book. I felt like this was very similar to At Peace and Cal and Violet’s situation.

What made this book great for me were all the amazing subplots and there were tons. They were exciting with great detail that I didn’t get lost or confused. Also this is the longest KA book to date for me which gave me plenty of time to get to know not only the main characters, which grew on me over time and were not instant hits, as well as, lots of richly developed secondary characters. I also think this book could have been crap (which it absolutely wasn't) and after reading another fabulous KA epilogue my heart was so gooey I could have been talked into giving it ten stars! Also another plus was all the references again to Purdue University which is my alma mater.

Book No. 10 in my New Year's binge on KA books and it did not disappoint. "Golden Trail" is my favorite in the 'Burg series. It's another second chance at love theme with amazing characters, both lead and secondary.

There's always something wild going on in the 'Burg which makes for a highly entertaining read. What a roller-coaster ride this one handed us. So many subplots filled with excitement, crime, emotional trauma, and family issues. I was cheering, booing, crying, laughing, sighing, hot, ...more

I love this author and especially this series. I haven't read the series in order -- didn't really know it was a series and started with #2, then this one #3. I really liked Layne. Out of all the H's in Ashley's books so far, this one is my favorite. I really liked how she incorported the kids and a the suspense was based on a child issue. This was one of those books you read and then you want to immediately read again, but I'll wait.

Well, crap! I just posted my review and it disappeared! I don't have it in me to rewrite it now. I'll just say that I enjoyed it, but it was a bit lengthy towards the end. Great epilogue as usual. I'm still a huge fan of KA, I just got pulled away from reading this a couple times and found it difficult to get drawn back into the story. That said, I'd move to the 'burg if I knew where it was. I really struggled to finish this one. There was too many subplots to keep straight, the bad cop, the prostitution ring, the bad coach, the crooked live-in of the ex-wife, the not so-ex-husband. Loved the family dynamic though and I loved At Peace so there was enough back characters that I was interested in that I kept going. I love a good "Lost Love/Reunited" story, and this one was no exception. Rocky and Layne were beautiful together. The dramas they had to deal with were intense, but they worked them out.
