Have you ever pictured a life without love?! Well, you don't have to think about it anymore. Just go ahead and read Delirium, because this is what it is: a population living without love. At the age of 18, all kids need to get 'cured' against love. Yes, love is a disease. It makes you go completely mad. It will affect you physically and mentally and will eventually lead you to your death. At least, that's what people in Portland seems to think. It drove her mad and she ended up comitting suicide. Lena lives in fear of that disease. It is constantly on her mind and she really can't wait for her 18th birthday so she can finally get cured. And what does getting cured mean exactly? You get the procedure, which will give you immunity against love. You will be incapable of love. Any type of love. But it seems that once you get the procedure and get cured, you are incapable of any sort of emotions. People in Portland are completely asleep and terrorized by the authorities. Brainwashed. Total brainwash. They don't know it though, because this is normality. This is happiness. But what will happen to Lena, when she accidentally meet Alex? What is it about this boy that turns Lena's world upside down? Alex is trouble, he is temptation. And has many secrets...

Delirium is a brilliant dystopian novel which will make you think about what love is and its effect you. I have to agree that love occasionnally seems like a disease. The author did a beautiful job making her readers think. This book is a masterpiece to me, because I was questioning myself the entire time about what love really meant in our world. It made me realize that yes, love is kinda dangerous and it has many 'side effects' on you. Love can be a deathly disease. However, what would we be without it?! How could we possibly live without love?! Love is the foundation of life itself and to imagine a world without it is simply scary. I think this is what Lauren Oliver wanted to showcase. Well, that is my point of view anyways!

The book isn't perfect though... There were some times that I felt there was way too many useless details, it was dragging on. Gosh, even in the middle of an important confession from Alex, the author would stop and make Lena think about a bunch of other stuff. Let's cut the crap and get to it already!! This is really what bothered me the most, and maybe the only thing that bothered me. The storyline was perfection, the characters were pretty well developped. I felt like I completely understood Lena and her insecurities, her doubts, her questioning; everything that was going on in her head was justified and made total sense.

I would have given this book a 4, because of a slow beginning, and all the long and useless details and descriptions. But just for the very last page of the book... I give it a 5. It was beatufiul. Powerful. It was strong. Inspiring. What an ending... I'm really looking forward to the sequel, I really need more of this story! ...more

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I'm not a huge fan of dystopian YA by any means. I've really own read The Hunger Games trilogy , and I couldn't get into to Divergent for the life of me. The only reason I picked up Delirium was because I had just finished -- and been completely amazed by -- Before I Fall, Lauren Oliver's previous book.

It's not as excellent as Before I Fall, by any means, and it doesn't do dystopia nearly as well as The Hunger Games, but it's still a totally enjoyable ...more

Another love story with dystopian theme. Well, it's a good book, the idea is creative, really. The thing about love stories is.. it feels good to read when I'm in love, but not so much when I'm brokenhearted. Or in anger. Or being a bitter pragmatist.

So sorry for this crappy review.

I'll recommend this for those who like hunger games, divergent, uglies.. Although this book really freakingly tasted like uglies. I don't know what happened.

And yea, I'll read the sequel(s?). ...more
