Rehashing the Same Old Story

I almost invariably give Anita Blake books four or five stars. However, this story rehashed far too many of the same issues with Anita's love life, prejudices she experiences within her career, and her idiocy with not eating food adequately and/or not feeding the ardeur. I would've liked the story more with a bit less of that, which is an oddity because for all of the other 25,000 books in this series, I've enjoyed the rehashing.

Also, once the story FINALLY got to the Rehashing the Same Old Story

I would've liked the story more with a bit less of that, which is an oddity because for all of the other 25,000 books in this series, I've enjoyed the rehashing.

Also, once the story FINALLY got to the really good part with the bad-guy/gal fighting stuff the book was practically over. That's NEVER fun! There was far too much time spent on arguing with police to get authorization to do the job the American and Anita Blake way. There was also too much time spent on saying how horrible Anita is that we didn't actually get to see/experience her being horrible or using her many magical powers or being bad ass as she'd been in previous books. And, let's be honest, with all of the metaphysics she has on board she should be the BIGGEST bad ass EVER!

On another note, I was surprisingly happy when something not "good" happened to one of Anita's main loves because it made one of my character wishes come true. Though something tragic happened to another of her loves and it was wholely unexpected and I didn't like that or the stupid rationale that was used to justify it.

Lastly, early on while reading this book I almost made the decision to stop reading it which has NEVER happened with any of the other books in the Anita Blake series. I considered returning this book and letting it be the last Anita Blake book I read because of the MASSIVE amount of repetition and rehashing old stuff. I mean at the very least if it has to be rehashed please give us some movement on it instead of leaving us hanging in the lurch. Don't spend an entire chapter rehashing the same old arguments then have Anita rush away with nothing to be resolved in the book or IF it is even noted in the epilogue it gets half of a sentence. STILL ... I decided to keep reading because I want to know what'll happen next. ...more
