I love dystopias, and I loved the idea of 'factions' based on personality traits and actions. Plus, the hype surrounding the release of the second book, Insurgent, had me curious.....
Divergent is a page turner, no doubt about it. By about page 5 I just couldn't put this book down - fascinated by the idea of factions, of making choices about where you belong in the world, and Tris's initiation into Dauntless had me gripping the sides of my sofa (figuratively, not literally, I can't read without m ...more

I gave this book three stars, and considering I don't usually enjoy sci-fi or fantasy, that is a pretty good rating. This book was a group pick and I zipped through it pretty fast (it's 480 pages). Another dystopian, YA, brave young girl out of her usual element has to become a brave warrior to essentially save the world from war. I don't like when people compare books saying saying 'oh I liked Hunger Games better' etc; this is not a comparison review, HOWEVER, it was very similar to the HG stor

I don't know if it's because I've read so much terrible YA fiction lately, but I was surprised at how unique and brilliantly written this one was. It's so nice to see a strong heroine who can fight for herself and doesn't fall into the trap of the ever popular 'insta-love' scenario afflicting most YA fiction these days. And a male lead who supports and encourages her independence and strength, and exposes his own weaknesses instead of trying to assert a caveman-alpha male "me rescue helpless wom

At first the premise didn't convince me as much as some other dystopian books I have read but by the end I was convinced. A great read. Can't wait to read the second one.
