Aravind Adiga's The White Tiger, Winner of the Man Booker Prize 2008, is basically about the journey of a man named Balram Halwai from the poverty of the poor village in the country side to being a success in India.

Loved this book...it was funny, it was bittersweet, and it was sad. I love a creative story and this one was. I loved the whole premise that it was a Indian entreprenaur murderer who was writing to a prime minister of China that was coming to visit India. The author gave us wonderful glimpses into modern India, which is still tainted by its caste past. The ability of the author to weave humor into the hopelessness of the poor, and the idiotcy of the powerful.

This book left me feeling confused. I felt that I should dislike Balram for many of the things he did, but I just couldn't. The author manages to make you... not like exactly, but at least feel that you understand Balram. Very interesting read.

This is the stories about the humble beginnings of an Indian ganster. It was a really enjoyable, hip read. India is the only foreign country I've visited, and thus, I enjoy learning more about the culture. The only thing I wished for was more time with the protagonist as the White Tiger. I expected the story to be a lot more gritty than it was, but maybe that was the whole point. Anyways, it's an excellent pickup.
