I did not realize this was an "Oprah" pic--I actually decided to read this after coming across the NEA BigRead list of 25 books...( www.neabigread.org) While I usually shy away from these types of lists (I find them often pretentious & exclusive)--there were several titles that struck my interest. The setting and tone of this book reminds me very much of "To Kill a Mockingbird" one of my all time favorite books ( also on this list). I am actually listening to it as an audiobook--
