I feel like everything that john a. powell explained in highly esoteric, academic terms in Racing to Justice, Oluo has re-interpreted into a practical application manual. It's pithy, it's brilliant, it is no-nonsense. It has BULLETED LISTS! <3

This book is amazing. Everyone should read it. It made me think and feel about my privilege and experiences. I also learned through the explanations within this book, and I think I still have a lot to learn. I appreciate the brutal honesty and the emotional cost it took the author to write this brilliant book. Also, Bahni Turpin narrates the audiobook, and she is a gem!

I had a hard time getting into this book at first because I read pretty much everything Ijeoma Oluo writes online and this really felt like an over-eager editor had gone through and removed anything that might keep the book from appealing to as wide an audience as possible. It just didn’t sound like her.
But as the book goes on and gets into more complex topics, it gets much more interesting and Oluo’s personal stories, which often introduce each chapter, give the writing her voice. I especially ...more
