This book is dark and scary and heartbreaking in all the right ways. I personally liked it better than the first book. I think the pacing worked better, as there was less exposition getting in the way of the action, and I thought the character development was stronger. I felt far more connected to August and Kate, and so their story was more compelling and intense than the first novel. I really liked this book, the world and the characters. It was a fast read that I hsydd having to put down. The end, meaning not just this book but the end of the entire series, left me dissatisfied. I don't know, I just have very mixed feelings about it. The book ended and I said hmm...well... what's next to read? ...more
