On reread: bumping up to five stars. Fuck me I enjoyed this (thought maybe enjoy isn't really the right word for the rollercoaster that this book is).

Holy crap I loved this. The whole Red Rising series for me was a series I could not put down. It is so action packed, so full of twists and turns and backstabbing that it gives me an adrenaline rush. I really really liked this book. I liked the characters we had grown to know over the past two books. I liked the world. I liked the actual sacrifice.

So, I think this might actually be my favorite series (behind Harry Potter of course). I couldn’t think of a more perfect ending to this emotionally crushing, but amazing trilogy. I’m so excited to start the second half of this story!

Good finale for this series. I liked this book better than the last, perhaps even better than the first. There is another year gap between the end of the 2nd book and the beginning of the 3rd, but it isn’t as confusing or jumbled as the time between the 1st and 2nd. The author doesn’t go easy on the protagonists as everything that can go wrong seems to do just that. It’s exciting and action-packed.
