After the death of her best fried, Shahrzad marries the Caliph with the intention of killing him; but in order to survive long enough to do that she must tell him tales that will captivate him long enough to spare her life.

I can't believe I waited so long to read this book. I was captivated from the very first page.

First of all, I really enjoy reading the enemies to lovers trope so if you can't stand this trope then don't even both with this book. I say this because the love story in this book i

Based on The 1001 Nights, parts of this book are stunningly brilliant, and parts are just okay. When Shazi channels the original Scheherazade in her story telling, she is amazing. The language is rich, and the characters are compelling. Once the plot drifts away from Scheherazade's tales, though, it sort of flounders along in an average teenage love/angst story. I enjoyed it, and I think anyone who is a fan of YA fantasy and/or reinvented fairytales would enjoy it, but it didn't turn out to be a ...more

I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't sure going into to it if I would like it but when I couldn't put it down even to cook dinner for my family, I guess it was safe to say I loved it. Theonly reason why it got only 4 stars is I didn'tlove the ending of it. I realize it left itas a cliff hanger for the next book but I wish the ending would have been a bit different.I can't wait to read The Rose & The Dagger which is the next book and final book. I am so glad my daughter has a love of reading like ...more

I really wanted to like this, especially since I've read such great things about it. However, I just couldn't get into it. There definitely needed to be more of an introduction for the characters, instead of just being thrust head first into the plot. Perhaps if the book had started a few days before Shahrzad was to marry Khalid, and she had had some interactions with Tariq and his friend (whose name I can't even remember) then I would have connected more with the characters and actually cared a ...more

I loved this book. So much ugh. Shazi was a fantastic main character. I loved her wit and sass but also her heart for the characters around her. She rocks. The romance had me swooning. And the overall plot just had me shook. This book is pure magic. And I ate it up man. I need to next one like nowwww
