oh my god, this book was so painful. this series is told in first person from Mare Barrow's perspective and boy is she so narcissistic that I felt like my eyes were going to hemorrhage. who refers to themselves consistently in third person (not a direct quote but: they fear the lightning girl)!?!? she kept placing immense value over her own head because she's "the lightning girl" and saying she is more important than any other person in the book. I kid you not.
