REREAD 3/16/25
I have reread this series so many times but sometimes when I feel like a slump is coming on I go and reread binge and I always reread this series or ACOTAR series. They always pull me out of a slump. I got so invested in all the characters and the world. Celaena is probably one of my favorite female characters of all time. It's a toss up between her and Feyre. I love them both so much.

I will never not rate all these book 5 stars because every time I read them I feel like I'm visiting old friends. I used to hear that when I first got into Booktube and I thought it was such a weird thing to say and feel but I SOOOO get it now.

Just like the other times I've read this book, it's STILL just as AMAZING as it was the first 2 or 3 times I read this book. It's one of my favorites in this series!!! I never skim the pages or avoid chapters because I've read it before. NOPE it's just as fantastic now as it was the first time I read it.

LOVED IT!!!! What else is there to say, I am never one to ruin or spoil a book for someone so my reviews are how I felt. This whole series is amazing and Sarah J Maas is a master at story telling. I want to be Celaena...lol

Still another 5 star book for me. I loved it more this time then I did the first time. I found so many things in it I didn't remember happening.

This one almost didn't make it to 4 stars for me. It was closer to 3 until the last third or so. I had super high expectations though. I could not get enough of the first two. It seemed to really drag compare to the others in the series. There was a lot of talk, a lot, a LOT of whining and self-hatred and that disappointed me. I get that she was broken after the last book, but there comes a point when you either give in to the misery or stand up and do something. The first 2/3 of the book felt l This one almost didn't make it to 4 stars for me. It was closer to 3 until the last third or so. I had super high expectations though. The first 2/3 of the book felt like she was doing neither, she'd try a little, then give in, felt a little wishy washy. Eventually she got there, which redeemed her and the book, but it took a little too long in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy this book, it just isn't the action packed kick butt heroine barely stop to breathe type book like the others.

We meet a lot of new characters and still have the old. I really wasn't a fan of the way Chaol changed. You either love someone or you don't, you can't love most of them. That kind of ruined the romance for me, because I no longer want her with Chaol, and I don't want her with Rowan either. I get that he was guarded at the beginning when he was acting like a super douche but because of that, I feel like he's not really a potential love interest. I do see them as bonded in a very rare for young adult novels friendship way. The friendships and loyalties were strong in this one. Not a super fan of the "if I want to protect him/her I'll keep secrets from them" kind of attitude though. There was some betrayal going around, so I get the secrecy, but don't use the excuse it's to protect the other person. I wasn't really a fan of Aedion, the young Aedion yes, but not this version, he just rubbed me the wrong way, it felt forced, told, not shown. The most impressive part for me was the witches. I don't think I've ever found a character I hated, yet rooted for at the same time. I like how you see changes in Manon and wonder if there is a future for some of her own kind of rebellion, an unlikely alliance perhaps? The King is just as disgustingly evil as ever. I wasn't a total fan of Sorscha, especially after her letters, I was disappointed in the ending if only for poor Dorian who I felt was finally finding himself and becoming a man.

I enjoyed the world, although, again I felt this one gave a little less. I did enjoy the demi-fae characters but wish some of them were a little less passive, or we saw some of them being less passive. Some of them joined the battle, I would've liked seeing more of them. The dynamics of the witches were interesting, their loyalty was impressive. I wasn't a fan of Rowen's little group and the whole blood oath thing seemed to end too easy, but perhaps that isn't completely over. Seems like this one opened quite a few new doors for the next book.

There's 3 different storylines going on at the same time. We have Celaena with Rowan, Dorian & Chaol back at the palace, and we have Manon and the other witches. I find sometimes jumping like this makes it hard to follow, but I didn't have a problem with this one, it flowed pretty seemlessly. We finally find out what happened to Celaena all those years ago, how she ended up with Arobynn, I have been waiting for that the entire series, finally some satisfaction. It made the slow parts totally worth it. I liked how once she finally accepted what happened, she came to terms with her grief and guilt she could begin rebuilding her life and herself.

For some reason I thought this was the last of the series, I'm glad it's not, but I'm hoping the next book really outshines this one. I will continue in the series for sure. ...more

As this series goes along, it's growing. Some of it is growing pains, as Celaena changes from her annoying teenager self to not-quite-so-annoying queenly self. However, the change in scope of the story and how it expands with each new book is exciting. I really enjoy the shift to a more epic narrative, especially as the new characters introduced are some of the most compelling and complex. I'm glad to get more breathing time from Celaena, as the time spent away lends more excitement to her narra ...more

Shelves: ya, own, fantasy, series-to-finish

I've been on a bit of Sarah J. Maas binge and I am in love with her world building and character development. Building a fantasy world is difficult (I know from personal experience) and Maas does it beautifully. It also doesn't hurt that Calaena/Aelin is the kind of bad ass female main character that have changed the landscape of fantasy literature. Read this series-I promise you won't regret it. ...more
